100% recycled stainless steel

Jan 13, 2025

It all started with a simple question: can we make a watch without taking anything new from the planet?
In a world where almost everything already exists, the answer should have been obvious.
But it wasn’t.

Recycled steel has been around for a long time. Most so‑called "new" steels already contain about 90% reused material. The remaining share comes from virgin ore, added to reach the right properties. It works well enough for most purposes.
But at CB, "well enough" never quite feels right.
We wanted to see if we could go further.

So we asked our partners at ThyssenKrupp: is 100% possible?
No virgin input. No shortcuts. No compromise.
The journey took time, persistence, and a belief that it was worth it.

Stainless steel 316L is a trusted material, loved for its corrosion resistance, durability, and biocompatibility. It’s the kind of metal you want against your skin every day, effortlessly.
Replicating those exact qualities with only recycled sources had never been done before. It meant rethinking sorting processes and refining every stage of the melt.

That’s how PuReSteel® was born: a fully recycled 316L stainless steel, used in our watches since 2020.
A world first.
Proof that precision and responsibility can truly coexist.

PuReSteel® is melted in Switzerland, in furnaces powered by hydroelectric energy.
A local, carbon‑neutral production, just a few steps from our workshops. Not for show, but for coherence.
Because innovation only matters when it protects what it changes.

Inside every CB‑01 case lies this sense of balance, creating something lasting without taking more from the earth.
A material shaped by time, built to endure, and ready to begin again.

To the eye, you wouldn’t notice the difference. The surface, the shine, the density, all identical.
Yet, its story makes it unique. This steel has already lived. It carries traces of a previous life, now reborn as something made to last indefinitely.

Making watches without extracting new resources won’t fix everything. But it’s a way of taking a stand, of proving another way is possible.
A thoughtful choice, grounded in reality.

100% recycled. 100% stainless steel 316L. 100% circularity. Zero compromise.
