How CGI watch images are made

Nov 30, 2020

Let's have a look at the process of generating CGI pictures (Computer Generated Imagery) of a watch.

Once the watch is 3D modeled (meaning that the design and construction have been done), the file is imported in a dedicated software to add lights, shadows, materials, textures and colors.

The main steps are the following ones:

1) import 3D file and bugs fixing

2) polygons (there are different methods to map the volumes. Here we use polygons)

3) lights

4) texturing

5) rendering lights + textures

6) retouching and final result

It needs quite a lot of time, patience, and tests to play with hundreds of settings, then retouch the picture in another software to reach the realism or style expected.
